- Introduction
This privacy statement applies to the processing of personal data from job applicants, participants in (online) events and other interested parties (hereinafter collectively “data subjects” or “you”) by Rijk Zwaan with its possible participating interests and affiliates, hereinafter referred to collectively as “Rijk Zwaan” or “We”. We are Rijk Zwaan, an international vegetable breeding company (www.rijkzwaan.com). Our head office is located in De Lier (The Netherlands).
In this privacy statement we explain why and how we process your personal data. We reserve the right to amend this privacy statement at our discretion and at any time if new developments give rise to this.

- Which Personal Data do we process?
The "processing" of personal data means that Rijk Zwaan can: collect, record, organize, store, update, modify, request, consult, use, provide or distribute, bring together, protect, erase or destroy.
We process personal data you provide within your resume and cover letter when applying for a job. The following personal data is common to process when you apply for a job: Full name, email address, address, place of residence, phone number, employment history, education, and any other personal data you voluntary provide in your resume or cover letter.
We also collect and process information you provide by means of the submitted application, during conversations, in job interviews, in phone calls, in emails with Rijk Zwaan and/or consultation of public sources.
We also collect your name, contact details, relevant employment history and/or education, resume and motivation before or after you visited inhouse days and (online) events. Rijk Zwaan can take photos and videos of (online) events and uses this visual material on the website, in brochures or other expressions.
Applicants can be subjected to an assessment if this is necessary for the position to test and evaluate competences. We share the necessary personal data with a third-party who conducts the assessment.
You can reach us via different channels: e.g. telephone, post, e-mail, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. We process personal data to make this possible.
- For which purposes do we use your personal data?
By applying for a job at Rijk Zwaan, we will collect and process your personal data in connection with our recruitment activities, including but not limited to process your personal data for:
- evaluating your suitability for a job opening;
- communicating about the recruitment process;
- checking references, possible screening and conducting assessments in order to gain a better insight into the qualities of the data subject concerned;
- preparing a job offer and possibly to prepare your employment contract;
- sending job alerts and/or general information about our organization;
- registration to attend and the ability to host an (online) event and/or inhouse day.
Personal data provided when applying for a job opening can be shared with our international staff to determine if you are suitable for a job other than the job you applied for.
For Rijk Zwaan we use 'adapted target groups' via social media platforms. We do this ourselves and/or with third parties who do this on our behalf. We use Facebook and LinkedIn targeting. On these platforms (personalized) advertisements can be shown for vacancies. Data subjects can also be approached for a vacancy via Social Media.
In addition, the personal data can be used for statistical research and possible improvement of our recruitment procedure.
Rijk Zwaan has not sold personal information and will never sell personal information.
- Who has access to your data?
In principle, we limit access to your personal data to the employees in our HR department, management and employees that are present during the interviews.
We only share personal data if it is necessary. We will share data with third parties that help us with screening and/or conducting assessments or at (online) events and in-house days. Personal data provided when applying for a job opening can be shared with our international staff, e.g. to determine if you are suitable for a job other than the job you applied for.
Also, personal data may be accessed by third party IT vendors who support our IT systems. We require these companies to adequately safeguard personal data.
- How long do we store your personal data?
Rijk Zwaan retains your personal data for a limited period of time and we will delete or de-identify this data after it is no longer necessary for the purposes of the processing or the period required under retention laws.
If you become an employee with Rijk Zwaan, the personal data you provided during the recruitment process becomes part of your employment record, and your data will be processed in accordance with our internal policies.
The data subject concerned can always request us to delete the personal data.
- How do we secure your personal data?
We have taken technical and organisational measures to ensure an appropriate level of security to protect your personal data from unauthorised or unlawful processing and from loss, destruction, damage, alteration or disclosure. If you have any questions regarding the security of your personal data, or if there are indications of misuse, please contact privacy@rijkzwaan.com.

For each request, please send an email to privacy@rijkzwaan.com if you would like to exercise any of your rights. Once we receive and confirm your verifiable request, we will handle your request, unless an exception applies. We will respond to your request consistent with applicable law. If you have a complaint about the way we process your personal data, you can report this via privacy@rijkzwaan.com. If this does not lead to the desired result, you can also submit a complaint to data protection supervisory authority.
- Where do we process your personal data?
Rijk Zwaan is a global operating organization with headquarters in the Netherlands – De Lier. Your personal data will be stored and processed in the EU and/or the country with the specific vacancy you applied for. In some cases, personal data from EU residents may be transferred outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”), but always under the safeguards of the European Standard Contractual Clauses.
