Your job at Rijk Zwaan:
As a semantic and linked data expert, you will spearhead Rijk Zwaan's efforts to utilize data from various domains through semantic techniques. You will be involved in standardization efforts including data modeling to support data-driven decision-making. This includes data from domains such as genetics, quality control, and plant physiology. Keeping short and long-term goals in mind, you will scout for technological advancements/solutions and propose proof-of-concept projects to assess them. Together with stakeholders you will further develop these ideas to solutions to demonstrate the value of linked data and knowledge graphs. In general, you will:- Develop semantic models for research, and various breeding activities
- Build ontologies that provide comprehensive domain coverage, available for both human and machine ingestion and inference
- Explore AI models for schema creation and assigning ontologies
- Contribute to the company's ambition to utilize knowledge graph methods
- Contribute to team goal setting and the future vision
- Be an ambassador for ontology and semantic technologies within and across Rijk Zwaan teams

This vacancy is for a position within the Computational Biology Research Department—an interdisciplinary and international team of researchers passionate about biocomplexity, genetics, data analysis, and artificial intelligence applications in breeding research. With diverse expertise within the department, we undertake interdisciplinary research and are the frontrunners in AI applications. You work with domain experts who possess extensive knowledge in their respective fields to build comprehensive taxonomy and ontology models, optimizing processes or facilitating knowledge discovery. You collaborate with data owners to design solutions that maximize the value derived from data.Your contribution:
You actively seek out co-operation with colleagues, have a passion for learning and contributing to interdisciplinary projects. You are quick to grasp complex processes and can communicate technical solutions in understandable language. You enjoy brainstorming with other departments to identify new opportunities. In addition, we can find the following on your CV:- MSc in computer science, information science, computational linguistics, mathematics or related field.
- At least 2 years of experience in semantic web technologies, query languages and validation/reasoning standards (Eg: RDF/s, OWL, SPARQL, Cypher and SHACL).
- Knowledge of open-source or commercial tools for ontology editing/semantic modeling (e.g. Protégé)
- Proven experience in mapping and transforming relational data into a knowledge graph
- Experienced in utilizing graph data using AI models for inference will be an advantage
