Your internship at Rijk Zwaan!

We strive for the highest quality seeds and continuously invest in research and development. Every year, 30% of turnover is invested in research and development. All vegetable varieties bred at Rijk Zwaan often end up in the Biochemistry department for research. In parallel, IT develops methods for the non-destructive assessment of plant quality traits. During your research, you will carry out postharvest experiments with various crops. You will develop sensors and image analysis strategies that will assist plant selection, with the ultimate purpose of extending shelf life. During your internship you will engage in:
  • Postharvest experiments
  • Morphological observations with optical microscopy
  • Use of light sensors and photography to measure quality related plant characteristics

Where will you be working?

In De Lier, near Delft, lies the head office of Rijk Zwaan. An international family business with a people-oriented corporate culture. Rijk Zwaan is at the beginning of the food chain. We develop vegetable varieties and sell their seeds to growers all over the world. From our position we can and want to contribute to the world's food supply. This is all about growth. The growth of our company and especially the growth of our employees.As a new intern at Rijk Zwaan, you will join the Biochemistry team in Fijnaart. Here, you will be coached daily by our staff who work with passion. You will be part of a team of postharvest and imaging specialists working on content and quality analysis of all Rijk Zwaan crops.

  • Internship remuneration of 500 euros per month (full-time)
  • Monthly lunch with the group interns

Your contribution:

As a Plant Science and IT intern, you have a keen interest experimentation with plants. You have a proactive attitude and an eye for detail. It is important that you have knowledge on plant biology with preferably focus on postharvest physiology. You are available to work on research for a minimum of four months. You will be working in a team of International specialists, where a good command of the English language and good communication skills are necessary. Furthermore, we can find the following on your CV:
  • An HBO or WO student majoring in plant sciences or biotechnology
  • Possessing project management skills
  • Basic understanding of photography, image analysis and spectroscopy
