Your internship at Rijk Zwaan!

Our organization invests in innovation through breeding programs and research. In this research, you will contribute to our research efforts. The goal of this internship is to develop a semantic model and knowledge graph to optimize resources in digital phenotyping and breeding. During this research, you will specifically focus on:
  • Identifying ontologies: researching scientific literature, databases, and standards
  • Collaborating with domain experts to understand requirements through structured interviews and qualitative data collection
  • Developing schema as a blueprint for the knowledge graph, based on identified ontologies
  • Creating a knowledge graph using semantic modeling techniques and sample dataset
  • Validating and refining the knowledge graph with experts to ensure accuracy and usability

Where will you be working?

Rijk Zwaan is an international family-owned company with a people-oriented corporate culture. Rijk Zwaan is at the beginning of the food chain. We develop vegetable varieties and sell their seeds to growers and other chain partners worldwide, making a significant contribution to the global food supply.As an intern, you will be part of the Computational Biology Team in Fijnaart, which consists of six colleagues. You will collaborate with various experts from the team as well as external academic partner.  

What can you expect from us?

As an intern, you will work in an international environment within a dedicated team. You will have the opportunity to get to know an organization at the forefront of innovation and research on more than 30 different crops. In addition, we are happy to offer you:
  • Internship remuneration of 500 euros per month (based on full-time)

Your contribution:

You work independently, but also know how to easily establish contact and cooperate with colleagues. You are friendly and contribute to a positive working atmosphere. Moreover, you are proactive and curious with a problem solving mindset. In our international team of specialists, a good command of the English language is important. Furthermore, we can find the following on your resume:
  • A college or wo student in the direction of, for example, Computer Science, Data Science or Information Technology
  • Availability of at least 6 months, 32-38 hours per week
